1st Time at Dreamforce? Here’s some tips to help you get ready

Plane ticket. Check.
Hotel reservation. Check.
Business cards. Check.

Now imagine this: 150K people descending on downtown San Francisco at the same time as you to attend over 1600+ conference sessions or visit over 1000 exhibitors. The city is full of “Dreamforcers” from all over the world. You’ve got the basics covered, but you need to spend a few minutes to prepare yourself. Read on to for tips from our Dreamforce veterans …

Plan your visit

We don’t mean tourist attractions, or swanky restos.

We mean keynotes, workshops and sessions. The Dreamforce Agenda Builder is by far the best tool for finding and booking the right content for you from among the 1,600+ sessions, 400+ theaters, 100+ hours of hands-on training, 75 Circles of Success, and 25 workshops. So many sessions, so little time. Check it out.

Here are a few that caught our eye:

  1. Admin comedy sessions. Salesforce jokes. No, seriously.
  2. Negative Brainstorming: Harness Your Inner Evil Genius for Ideation
  3. 25 5-Star Apps You Haven’t Heard Of (But Need To)
  4. Mindfulness is a Superpower
  5. Leading as a Woman in Tech

Comfortable shoes. Sure, we get it, you just bought a pair of this season’s hot off-the-runway kicks – but save them for the evening outings. You’ll easily spend just as much time, if not more, walking between sessions as you will sitting. And certainly not a new pair. Tried and true is the way to go here.

Backpack. A nice comfy one, that you’re prepared to wear for 8-hours at a stretch. You’ll use it to carry your gear, your notes, Salesforce swag … Or just use it as a pillow in a quiet corner when you need to recharge.

Business cards. With so many attendees, you’re sure to find a few kindred souls that will feel like BFFs before the end of the four-day conference.

Mints. Well into the morning, a few coffees under the belt, a few TicTacs or Altoids will come in handy. And they are quieter than snapping your gum during the quiet moments in the keynote.

With so many great sessions, it’s hard to think beyond them. But let’s not forget there will be over 1000 companies ready to show you their Apps, built on the Salesforce platform, designed to help you get more out of the platform. A few notables:

FinancialForce: Financial Management, Professional Services Automation (PSA), and Human Capital Management (HCM) provides services-centric businesses with a platform that centralizes sales, services, finance and HR information.

MapAnything: A highly visual experience for visualizing information in Salesforce, including territory management, proximity-based searching, and visualization maps. Optimize travel routes, verify check-ins, & view real-time traffic on Salesforce1.

Conga: Create & deliver documents, presentations & reports in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, HTML email & PDF from any standard/custom object.

eSignLive: Get secure and compliant electronic signatures for your documents anywhere, on any device – remotely or in-person.

That’s right. If you didn’t already know it, now you do: U2 is the headline act at Dreamforce this year. So, head over to iTunes or the Google Play store and download your favorite U2 album (do we still call them albums?).

But most of all …

Expect the unexpected

Dreamforce is full of surprises. From photo ops with the Dreamforce mascot, swag, and inspiring guest speakers (did we mention Christy Turlington, Mark Cuban, Melinda Gates, a couple of astronauts, and a whole roster of other well-known figures??), keep your eyes open for those little experiences that will give you biggest memories.

Salesforce knows how to throw a good party, and this is your chance to be one of the cool kids. So enjoy yourself. You deserve it.
