Salesforce or D365: 5 key criteria to consider

We are blessed with so many CRM and ERP solutions to choose from on the market today. However, two major competitors are standing out from the rest: Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics 365. While both products address the same needs, they differ in several respects. Which one performs better? Which one fits my needs the best? Let’s take a look right now.

TOP OF MIND

According to a 2016 Gartner report, Salesforce captured a 19.7% market share in 2015. Microsoft Dynamics’ share was only 4.3%. Salesforce is clearly the popular choice, but why? You might be tempted to say that it’s because of their excellent marketing strategy. But no, this would not be enough to position them where they are now. Actually, Salesforce’s notoriety is based on the trusted relationship it has built with its clients throughout the years. The software developer has proven itself since its inception and it never stops innovating.

DATA REPOSITORY

Salesforce stores your data in the Cloud. On the other hand, with Dynamics 365, you can choose to store your data in the Cloud or on your own servers. It is worth mentioning that the data stored on your own servers must be protected by robust security systems and procedures, both in IT and in physical infrastructure, which require thorough maintenance. Would you be able to guarantee uninterrupted service? Is it really a feasible option for your business? The decision is yours.

PRODUCTIVITY

Salesforce’s design emphasizes ease of use and customizable menus. Salesforce also offers technical support and a learning platform called Trailhead. In the case of Dynamics 365, customers have to purchase these additional services separately.

Dynamics 365 is also simple and customizable. In addition, if you are familiar with the Office Suite, Dynamics 365 should not be too difficult to use since it integrates easily with other Microsoft products. However, Salesforce has recently entered into a partnership with Google which gives Salesforce users access to Google’s G Suite office productivity software. As a result, Salesforce users no longer have to use Microsoft’s proprietary office applications, which helps them increase their productivity since everything is now seamlessly integrated within the Salesforce + Google environment.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

When it comes to AI, Salesforce is years ahead of Microsoft Dynamics 365. In fact, Salesforce leaped ahead of the competition when it implemented the Einstein software in 2017. This artificial intelligence based application provides you with actionable analytics as well as recommendations.

For example, in a marketing context, Einstein identifies for you the appropriate content elements, the target audience, the optimal channel and the best timing to interact with your prospects or existing clients, which helps drive the amount of interaction.

CUSTOMER 360 VIEW

In order to better compete with Dynamics 365, Salesforce recently announced the addition of Customer 360. This platform provides the user with a global view of each customer. The data extracted from the Marketing Cloud, the Commerce Cloud and the Service Cloud will be used to build a unique and comprehensive profile for each individual client. In other words, instead of having three client worksheets for Mister X, you would have only one. Customer 360 is currently a beta version and the official release is scheduled for 2019.

CONCLUSION

We could also discuss pricing, sales forecasts, marketing automation, and so many other things! However, we chose to highlight the most important features to consider when choosing a CRM/ERP system that will perform. While Salesforce does not allow data to be stored on personal servers, its notoriety and its significant investment in artificial intelligence and in platform design make it a very interesting choice for the long term.
